Sumacks are another well known type of flat woven rugs as Kilims. These are associated primarily with Caucasian village weavers and with the Shahsavan tribe of Northern Persian province of Azerbaijan.

Like Kilims, Sumacks have no pile and are produced using a basic network of warp and weft threads. The Sumacks are not reversible like Kilims. In the tents of nomads and in village homes, flat woven covers serve variously as dust covers, floor coverings, wall hangings, room dividers, bedding and curtains.
