Javaid Bhat, a young entrepreneur who was born in a small town near Baramulla, Kashmir called Pattan. A villager who was relentless and always stood out for his charming and outgoing personality. He gave up everything to step outside his comfort zone and achieve the unachievable. After a decade of failed efforts in his rug business, he finally found the right market for his designs. He set out to New York, the city of fashion in 1993 and knew that one day he will own the number one rug store in New York. His business plan was simple, 100% customer satisfaction. He invested his heart and soul into Carpet Culture. In 2003, he became the founder of Carpet Culture rug store on Crosby Street (SoHo, New York).
Today he has relocated on Broome street between Center Market Place and Mulberry street. His daughter Sheena Javaid has set out to take her fathers dreams to another level. She owns her own clothing line called Cloth Culture and has also teamed up with Javaid and created an innovative rug shoe line. They came up with this idea in 2012. It took three years to produce comfortable yet stylish shoes for women. The line consists of loafers, heels and flats. Cloth Culture is the only company that owns this unique product. They have used Kilims from different countries such as Afghanistan, Persia, Turkey, Morocco etc. These handmade kilim and navajo shoes are made out of 100% wool and are also cruelty free. The insole has extra cushion added for comfort. Available at the Carpet Culture rug store in Soho, New York and online.
